We find this very difficult to believe, and very easy to believe in equal measures, so let’s just get this out of the way and see what everyone else thinks.
With Samsung’s focus very much on the Galaxy S III these days, it is full steam ahead for the company’s various P.R. departments, and it is one of those departments which is being accused of putting together a rather elaborate advertising campaign.
When a big black bus turned up outside the Sydney Apple Store, complete with the words ‘Wake Up’ emblazoned on the side, everyone took notice. When people began spilling out and chanting the same slogan, things got a bit weird. Nobody really explained what was going on, but the suspicion is that the whole thing is actually part of a Samsung press push that the Korean company is hoping will build anticipation for the unreleased Galaxy S III.
The whole thing coincides with billboards adorned with the same slogan popping up around Sydney, which obviously suggests that something is afoot. Whether Samsung’s next wunderphone is indeed the reason for this mock protest outside an Apple Store or not, we’ll just have to wait and see. If the protest is something else though, they clearly didn’t do a good job if nobody knows what their cause was.
Samsung’s Galaxy S III has been the subject of plenty of excitement of late, and many are expecting it to set the new standard for smartphones before Apple’s next iPhone is released, probably around October time. Few can argue against Samsung being one of the premier Android handset makers, and the Galaxy S line of handsets is often used as a yardstick for what is possible when Android is joined with great hardware.
Apple for its part is keeping quiet on the next iPhone, just as we would expect. With the iPhone 4S only six months old, the company is in no rush to bring a new handset to market, and October is looking more and more likely to be the month we get our hands on whatever Jonny Ive and his team of designers have up their collective sleeves.
Here’s hoping that Samsung’s mind games don’t precede a poor Galaxy S III release, too.
