Apple’s iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR are all big releases for Apple and all received plenty of time on-stage during the big unveiling on September 12th, and it turns out that there was so much going on during that event that Apple actually showed off a new feature on-screen but didn’t think to tell us about it.
That new feature relates to the camera’s Portrait mode, and it’s pretty great.
If you’re an iPhone owner, then you’re already probably familiar with Portrait mode because it has the power to create some truly impressive images. Stage Light is one of the Portrait mode features that a lot of people like to use, especially when taking selfies, and it appears that the new iPhones will have a new capability that allows a live Stage Light preview to be displayed on-screen, giving photographers a chance to see what the shot will look like before hitting the shutter button.
Currently, there is no preview for Stage Light, meaning users are pretty much in the dark – no pun intended – as to how the image will turn out until after they have taken the photo. Adding a live preview will give users a chance to make sure their subject is where they need to be and that the effect is indeed what they want to go for without having to take a shot first.
Apple showed off a range of new photo-related features that the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR will boast when they go on sale.
While it appears much of what is new could be added to existing iPhones via a software update, Apple did not say that would be the case.
