Transitioning away from a smartphone with a dedicated Home button – such as all of Apple’s older model iPhones – to a device like iPhone X which does away with the physical in favor of gestures, can be somewhat of a learning curve.
Some people will take to this like a duck to water, whereas others will struggle in the first instance until the new methods of interaction have sunk in. Whatever your level is, it’s always worthwhile having access to some additional hints and tips which make that period of transition here.
YouTuber EverythingApplePro is generally on hand to give advice on how all things Apple and how to get the most of out individual Apple products, this time choosing to focus on iPhone X and providing tips & tricks on gestures and more. The video itself hasn’t been introduced through any official authority, nor does it offer an exhaustive list of gestures and interface inputs which will result in specific events happening. It’s essentially one man’s journey with the iPhone X and the discovered interactions on that journey.
The video starts out relatively small with the knowledge that you can perform a single tap gesture on the screen when the device is locked to bring the screen to life. This essentially mimics what would have been a single Home button press. The video also points out that Notification Center isn’t solely limited to be being invoked by a swipe down on the left-hand horn of the device, instead confirming that it can be brought into play from any part of the top bar except the right horn which holds access to Control Center.
One of my favorite gesture addition is a left or right swipe on the new home indicator bar at the bottom of iPhone X which instantly takes you to the last used active app. Continuing this type of swipe gesture means that you will keep sifting through the apps which have previously been backgrounded. If you want to open up the App Switcher and switch through app cards then there are multiple ways you can do that on iPhone X, all of which are covered in the video in full.
Check it out for yourself if you own an iPhone X and see if you find anything that you haven’t discovered yet.
