Yes, it’s that time of the year again when Apple releases a brand new iPhone which proves itself to be an instant global hit and rather than simply enjoying the device, YouTubers decide to see how quickly they can destroy it in pursuit of channel views. Who are we to denounce and ridicule this type of behavior, so, instead, we take a keen interest in the experience in order to find out exactly how much punishment Apple’s new device can take before it breaks down.
This time around it’s a test of durability, the strength of the structure, and whether or not the iPhone X likes to be submerged in water.
Water Test
If you have been considering taking your brand-new iPhone X in the bath, or taking it on vacation and submerging it into the pool as you float around on your inflatable lilo in the sun, then the tests from EverythingApplePro would seem to suggest that Apple has absolutely nailed it when it comes to waterproofing this brand new hardware.
The initial tests of dunking the device into a tube of water and leaving it there showed absolutely no signs of damage or water ingress whatsoever. But what about if you want to take things a little further and go scuba diving with the device?
Well, that’s been covered too by locking the hardware into a container which lets water through, placing a chain on it and dunking it into 20-feet of water in a river. And the result? It may take some by surprise but the display was still responsive with no sign of damage. The camera was still functional with no fog or damage. It seems that Apple truly has produced a device which defeats water. It even survives being put through a washing machine cycle with no water or physical damage.

Scratch, Burn, and Bend Test
What about intentional acts of destruction and attempts at scratching the device? Well, as expected, and shown in video by JerryRigEverything, the screen starts to show scratches at level 6 on the Mohs scale and deeper scratches at level 7, which is on par with other smartphones on the market and exactly what would be expected. That means that keys and coins won’t scratch the display as the metals are softer than the hardness of level 6. The test does show that granite worktops and tiles, and even intentional acts of scraping the glass with a razor blade will cause damage, resulting in a potential $549 charge by Apple for repair. So make sure you consider that before you take a knife to your iPhone X to pass the time.
And, finally, it may seem like common sense to most, but if you take a naked flame to the display then it will most definitely burn off the oleophobic coating on the phone and cause permanent damage. Want to know if the phone will be another victim of Bendgate? Then watch the video and see for yourself.
