Apple was clearly feeling confident about the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus when they were unveiled during last Wednesday’s media event in San Francisco. It seems that almost a week makes very little difference to Apple, with an official statement to the media outlining that the Cupertino-based company is extremely happy with pre-order sales thus far.
Apple has also confirmed that it expects the number of units sold in the opening weekend to topple last year’s launch weekend record.
Clearly in a buoyant mood given the estimated success of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, Apple had this to say:
Customer response to iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus has been extremely positive and preorders this weekend were very strong around the world. We are on pace to beat last year’s 10 million unit first-weekend record when the new iPhones go on sale September 25.
It seems that customer demand for Apple’s new hardware has even exceeded the company’s own expectations. Although, we don’t know why this is the case as it happens every twelve months without fail:
As many customers noticed, the online demand for iPhone 6s Plus has been exceptionally strong and exceeded our own forecasts for the preorder period. We are working to catch up as quickly as we can, and we will have iPhone 6s Plus as well as iPhone 6s units available at Apple retail stores when they open next Friday.
Many analysts and experts with the industry and Wall Street thought it would be an extremely tall task to beat the initial sales boom that took place with last year’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Apple managed to take a staggering four million pre-orders for those two devices on the first day of pre-sale availability alone. That number quickly rose to a whopping ten million units sold by the end of the first weekend. After crunching the numbers and taking stock of its inventory levels Apple seems fairly confident that those records are there to be broken.
SShipping dates on Apple’s website would indicate that consumers are going wild for the iPhone 6s Plus, particularly in Rose Gold. All iPhone 6s Plus models are currently sold out. The smaller iPhone 6s, in some configurations, does however still show as in stock and available for a September 25th delivery when the hardware officially launches in stores.
