iPhone 6s Will Feature ‘Force Touch’ Display, No Dual-Camera System

Rumors surrounding the expected two new iPhones that Apple will launch this year are starting to solidify, with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus believed to be on course for a release around September time, if past timings are anything to go by.

Citing sources supposedly in the know, Apple Insider is reporting that the new iPhones will feature an Apple Watch-like Force Touch feature this year, though the rumored two-lens camera solution will apparently not make an appearance.

The interesting Force Touch feature is one that Apple debuted late last year when it announced the Apple Watch to the world. Using tiny electrodes, the technology senses how hard a user is pressing on the device’s screen, effectively giving it the ability to distinguish between a hard press and a light tap. Such functionality will allow the Apple Watch to hide some menu options beneath a hard press without having to clutter the small screen with buttons, though it’s unclear exactly what it will be used for when the feature makes the jump to the iPhone. We would expect the iPad to also gain the technology at some point, too.

It’s not all good news though. Rumors that had Apple adding an additional camera lens in order to create DSLR-like photographs appear to have been wide off the mark. Some existing smartphones use two lenses to help calculate depth when taking photographs, but the iPhone does not seem to be on the brink of joining that particular club. The iPhone is already quite good at taking excellent photos though, so we won’t worry too much. Still, new features already go down well, don’t they?

As expected though, Apple Insider confirms what everyone could have guessed – the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will essentially look the same as the existing iPhone models but with revised internals.

Surprised? No, we don’t think so.
