The iPhone 6 has been a hot topic of discussion during the opening stages of this year, and from what we’ve heard so far, the Cupertino company could be planning to release two versions of the upcoming handset. We’re expecting one model of around 4.7 inches, and another, similarly-equipped handset of around 5.5 inches, and both will, according to reports, look very much identical. Now, it has emerged that Apple may be opting for a “bezel-free” display, which would not only look great, but maximize display real-estate without adding too much by way of bulk.
The latest report hails from The Korea Herald, which notes that the Apple iPhone 6 will offer a bezel-free display, otherwise known in the mobile industry as ‘edge-to-edge’.
Unfortunately, however, the article doesn’t go into a great deal of detail, only noting of Apple working on an iPhone 6 prototype as an afterthought to a report dominated by talk of the Samsung Galaxy S5.
What is mentioned, though, is the fact that the iPhone 6 will include a fingerprint sensor, and although we’d probably take this one as a given anyway, it looks as though Apple has been pleased enough with the response from iPhone 5s users to roll the feature to future models.
Many reports have noted of two different variants of the iPhone 6, with a slightly bumped 4.7-model supposedly launching alongside a 5.5-inch edition. The iPhone 5s would, meanwhile, live to fight another day, while the iPhone 5c would meet its demise after only a one-year cycle.
Both new models are expected to be largely similar if not the same as one another in terms of form factor, with the iPad Air and Retina iPad mini offering a pretty good analogy as to what may happen when the iPhone 6 rolls around.
Even though the tech world may feel as though it has painted a vivid picture of what’s to come, we are still along way from the purported fall release frame, so until we begin to see some plausible parts leaks, it’s hard to get too enthused about the prospect of two new iPhones just yet.
What do you think – is it likely that Apple will push ahead and release two considerably larger iPhones later on this year? And also, would you like to see them packing edge-to-edge displays?
