We’ve been treated to an abundance of leaks so far in our trail of the so-called iPhone 6, and even though it would be jumping the gun to suggest that we’ve nailed down the design of the forthcoming Apple smartphone, dozens of snaps, cases and mockups have all seemed to point to a larger, more rounded form factor. But while we’ve seen plenty of the iPhone 6, what we haven’t yet clapped eyes on is a comparison with the current flagship, and so to offer a sense of perspective, this latest leak finally offers a visual head-to-head of old versus new.
This particular leak arrives courtesy of Italian blog Macitynet, and as you will immediately spot from the photos, the iPhone 6 is both noticeably thinner and significantly wider than its would-be predecessor.
The consensus remains that Apple will introduce two new iPhones of almost identical design, except one will be larger than the other. A variant with a 4.7-inch display is expected to manifest first, with a delayed, 5.5-inch edition making its way to market at a later date while production issues pertaining to a new, thinner battery are addressed.
These photos show a mockup of the smaller, 4.7-inch specification, and while it’s only around the same size bracket of most high-end smartphones in the market, it boasts considerably more real estate than the iPhone 5s’s 4-inch panel.
The iPhone’s design hasn’t really changed much since the iPhone 4 dropped in 2010, and even though the increase in size may have forced the alterations we’re seeing with the mockups, it’s also clear to see that Apple’s ethos of uniformity is being revisited. The iPod touch and iPad range both offer this sleek, curved finish, and with the iPhone 6 apparently in line to follow suit, the entire iOS device line-up will appear cut from the same cloth.
Aside from the physical attributes, the iPhone 6 is expected to pack a Touch ID fingerprint sensor, an Apple A8 processor and, from what we can gather, some pretty impressive camera tech. Recent reports have suggested that Electronic Image Stabilization will offer superior shooting capabilities, and with some analysts also highlighting that this device may prompt Android users to jump to iOS en masse thanks to its larger size, we could be on the cusp of another game-changer from Apple.
