With the way things are going, it’s debatable whether Apple will need to announce the iPhone 6 officially at all, with all the important bits of information already beginning to circulate around the internet, and with months to go before Apple’s execs take to the stage to announce what we all expect to be the iPhone 6, we’re already starting to form quite the picture about what they will be there to show to the world.
We’ve already shown you plenty of images of what appear to be dummy iPhone 6 models, presumably used as a way for case makers to make sure they’ve got all the ducks in a row before the big unveiling, and today we’re going to show you yet more images – this time of both a new dummy unit and some 3D drawings that, on the face of it at least, seem to corroborate that aforementioned dummy.
That dummy once again comes courtesy of the fine folks at NoWhereElse.fr [Google Translate], with the French blog offering up photos of the new plastic unit alongside the current cream of the iOS crop, the iPhone 5s. It’s here that you really start to get a feeling for how much bigger the iPhone 6 will be when compared to the iPhone 5, iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c. Expected to come in two different screen sizes, it’s the iPhone 6’s 4.7-inch guise that’s on display here, complete with repositioned sleep/wake button and rounded LED flash. Pill-shaped volume buttons are also in attendance, meaning those keeping score will no doubt be aware that all the rumor boxes are ticked here. The only oddity is the 7mm thickness, with previous models just 6.1mm thick. Could this mean Apple has changed the device’s girth during the design process?
That new thickness is backed up by some newly leaked 3D renders, which appear to show the iPhone 6 in all its glory. Coming from Chinese Apple forum Feng.com [Google Translate] and supposedly originating from Apple’s supply chain, the renders fit in nicely with what the NoWhereElse.fr photo shows, which works out nicely for those of us trying to make sense of it all.
Apple is roundly expected to be bringing at least one, possibly two new and larger iPhones to market later this year. With rumors and leaks very much corroborating that assumption, we’d be very surprised to see anything but a bigger, beefier iPhone come September time.
