iPhone 6 Battery Replacement Program For Unexpected Shutdown Issue May Launch Soon [Rumor]

Owners of faulty iPhone 6s devices found themselves in a good place when Apple decided to introduce a battery replacement program to eliminate issues with an affected batch of devices. Having that system in place for iPhone 6s owners is all well and good, but it immediately resulted in iPhone 6 owners coming out of the woodwork floating the suggestion that their own devices were experiencing similar shutdown issues.

Presumably as a potential response to those consumers, an unconfirmed report is now suggesting that Apple has plans to extend that replacement program to include the older iPhone 6 hardware.

The information about the possible program extension has made its way into the public domain via Japanese site Macotakara, but does make it abundantly clear that this is purely in the rumor stage at the moment with no additional information pointing to when this will happen, if at all. The publication is also unable to identify or point to any individuals as a reliable source of this information, which of course puts some immediate doubt over the topic for some people.

Of course, if true, then it will be a very welcome and worthwhile move by Apple. When the company initially introduced the iPhone 6s battery replacement program, it went on record as stating that only a very small number of devices were affected, and that they could be identified by their serial numbers and batch manufacturing date.

The fact that Apple claimed the affected devices were manufactured between September and October 2015 made it seem like it was an impossible task for any device outside of those date ranges to have been affected by the cause of the problem.

Anyone with an affected iPhone 6s device has been able to arrange an appointment with Apple to have the battery replaced as a free-of-charge service, as long as it is in overall good condition.

If Apple has identified a problem with earlier iPhone 6 devices, and that issue can’t be fixed with a software update as it’s purely related to a manufacturing defect, then it’s likely that the extension of the program will afford the same replacement luxuries to those with a proven affected iPhone 6. We will be sure to keep you informed as and when this develops.
