When the iPhone 5s was first released, it was pretty darn hard to get hold of. And on its first day of sale, once supplies ran out, it was weeks before shipments resumed as Apple’s early inventory was completely spent. Gradually, though, things have improved, with consumers looking to purchase the latest and greatest Cupertino smartphone not being subjected to waiting periods of more than a week. As of right now, the iPhone 5s is available in the US, UK, Asia Pacific and Middle East, with shipping times for the device back down to a much more palatable 1-3 days.
Of course, those looking to grab the all-new, A7 processor-packing, Touch ID-enabled gizmo have little room to be complacent, since, with shoppers scrambling to get their gifts in time for the holiday period, things could lapse again at some point in the future.
Nevertheless, after months of huge sales and a Black Friday / Cyber Monday, Apple is now finally on top of the manufacturing process, and if you’ve been wanting an iPhone 5s but didn’t want to be burdened with a manically busy Apple Store or lengthy wait for delivery, now would seem the perfect time to place your order; well, at least, if you live in the regions which we’ve mentioned above.
The price of the flagship iPhone in the UK is slightly higher than that of its predecessor, although this is the case across the world. The 16GB variant will set you back a cool £549, although things get a lot cheaper if you opt for a contract model.
First weekend sales of the iPhone 5s and lower-end iPhone 5c exceeded expectation, and the two newest additions to the iPhone family have enjoyed significant success in their first couple of months on sale.
The iPhone 5c is, to all intents and purposes, an iPhone 5 with a plastic cover, and although Apple only sells one for every three iPhone 5s units sold, it’s very likely that its shelf life will greatly exceed that of its superior counterpart. The multitude of colors and relatively high-end nature of the specs points to a device that is built to last, and even when next year’s new iPhone arrives, it’s likely that the 5c will live to fight another day.
