According to Craig Fox, organizer of MyGreatFest, a London-based iPhone-related event, a jailbreak for the iPhone 5 might be released when once the event kicks off, on September 17th, if the new device is indeed released in August, as we reported yesterday.
In a tweet, Fox explained:
Looks like an iPhone 5 JB could be released at #MyGreatFest all going well 😉
The new jailbreak will allegedly be engineered by Joshua Hill, also known as @p0sixninja on Twitter, the developer of the GreenPois0n tool.
The following tweet from Joshua seems to confirm the fact that since iPad 2 jailbreak by Comex is almost ready, he is now going to concentrate on finding another exploit to jailbreak the next iPhone as soon as it is released this Fall.
@MyGreatFest more then likely. Seems like @comex has this one under control
Hill and Craig will also hold a live Q&A session on VizBoxTV on this Saturday at 8PM GMT (that’s 3PM EST for our American readers), as well as a giveaway. We’ll bring any relevant details to you, so I hope you stay tuned!
If you’re not yet familiar with MyGreatFest, it’s going to be an event all about jailbreaking. The first ever MyGreatFest will take place on September 17th in London (and Redmond Pie will be sponsoring it), featuring some prominent iPhone developers, including creator of Cydia, Saurik, developer of GreenPois0n, Joshua Hill (@p0sixninja), @pod2g, Elias Limneos, creator of several iOS tweaks such as FoldersInFolders; and the developers of iDroidProject, which aims to bring Android and Linux to iOS devices. There will also be room for Q&A and a giveaway at the end of the conference. Feel free to read the full schedule at the MyGreatFest website.
If you’re slightly behind on the news, credible sources have revealed that a major iPhone redesign could be arriving at shelves as soon as August. Contrary to previous reports that stated that the next iPhone would be a slight improvement with no major new features, it now turns out that it might include new casing. The iPhone scene has quickly promised to rise to the occasion and release a jailbreak soon after the new iPhone is released, although we don’t know how hard Apple will make it on hackers to break into the iPhone 5.
September is shaping up to be a great month for custom iOS development. While reports of a major iPhone overhaul aren’t more than just rumors, longtime Apple enthusiasts know that where there’s smoke there’s fire. Let’s just hope the jailbreak comes out on time!
