Two days back Taimur, resident admin here at Redmond Pie, tweeted that a post comparing iPhone 4 with iPod touch 4G / 3G would be going up soon. Well, if you can read this, it means we’ve fulfilled our promise!
Taimur got his 4th gen iPod touch recently and took some pretty-pretty photographs comparing the overall look, thickness, front/back and Retina Display. The photos verify a lot of what we know about the 4th gen iPod touch so far which I’ll get into later in the post. See the photos below!!
Retina Display (You can see the difference here): Non-iPS Panel on iPod touch 4G on the Left, IPS Panel on iPhone 4 on the Right
The iPod touch 4G has the same overall chassis as the older iPod touches, but it is remarkably thin compared to them. iPhone 4 is 9.9mm thick whereas it’s phone-less brother, a mere 7.2mm. It is the thinnest pocket computer ever*!!
Internally speaking, the latest iPod touch has very similar components to iPhone 4 i.e. A4 processor, Retina Display, HD video recording. But there are a few places where the touch lags behind…
It doesn’t have 512MB of RAM (like the iPhone 4 does) nor does it have the same Retina Display (the difference is visible in last photo; viewing angles are better on iPhone 4).
Still, minor hardware differences aside, the iPod touch 4G is, as Jobs would say, a magical device. You can have most of the iPhone 4’s features for less than half the price! Be sure to read our iPod touch 4G review!
