iPhone 18 Will Gain New 2nm A-Series Chip, Analyst Claims

Apple’s iPhone 17 models won’t arrive until later this year, but a new report by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is already looking to the 2026 iPhone 18.

According to him, those models will use new A20 chips powered by 2nm chips.

The analyst believes that TSMC’s trial production of the 2nm chips has now reached a point where it has breached the 60-70% yield rate, suggesting that the company is closing in on being ready to ship them.

This latest news matches a previous claim by Kuo that hinted at 2nm chips for future iPhones. MacRumors notes that analyst Jeff Pu also suggested that 2nm chips are in the cards earlier this week.

Current iPhone 16 chips are based on TSMC’s 3nm manufacturing process and the iPhone 17 models are expected to follow suit. The move to 2nm chips doesn’t explicitly mean faster chips per se, but it could allow for cooler-running silicon that could in turn mean that chips can be pushed further. 2nm chips could also mean for more power-efficient devices, too.

Reports have suggested that the A20 chips will be around 15% faster than the A19 chips that will ship later this year while also being up to 30% more power-efficient.

If everything goes to Apple’s own release cadence we can expect that Apple will announce the iPhone 17 devices this coming September and the iPhone 18 models in September of next year.
