iPhone 17 Tipped For 12GB RAM Upgrade Over iPhone 16’s 8GB

Apple’s iPhone 17 series of devices will have 12GB of RAM included, according to a new report. The move will mean that the 2025 iPhones will have more RAM than any other iPhone if the report is accurate.

The MacRumors report, citing “a reputable source of accurate predictions about Apple’s plans,” suggests that the 12GB of RAM will be used to allow for improved Apple Intelligence and AI features.

“If you’re planning to switch to an AI-powered iPhone, the iPhone 17 in 2025 might be a better choice,” said the leaker. “This year’s iPhone 16 only has 8GB of RAM, with most of the AI processing done in the cloud. Next year’s iPhone 17 will have 12GB of RAM and more edge AI applications. This is something to consider for those with a limited budget who want to upgrade their iPhone.”

Edge AI is a term for AI features that process data on the iPhone itself, rather than uploading and downloading data to and from the cloud. That improves performance as well as privacy, two things that Apple is keen to improve wherever possible.

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 models are expected to have 8GB of RAM, particularly to help with Apple Intelligence features.

The same devices will feature A18 chips as well, expanding the devices that support Apple Intelligence beyond the current iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
