iPhone fans expecting a major camera layout redesign for the iPhone 17 Pro might be in for a surprise.
According to a reliable leaker, Instant Digital, the upcoming Pro model will retain its signature triangular camera arrangement, despite earlier rumors suggesting a horizontal layout.
Posting on Weibo, the leaker explained that while the back design of the iPhone 17 Pro will undergo changes, the camera setup will not adopt the “horizontal bar” or “elongated oval shape” that had been circulating in recent reports. Instead, the three-camera module will stick to the familiar triangular layout.
Apple first introduced this triangular design with the iPhone 11 Pro, moving away from the vertical arrangement seen in earlier models. The shift was driven by the addition of an Ultra Wide camera and advancements in sensors and optics. Since then, the triangular camera bump has become a hallmark of Apple’s Pro lineup, continuing through the iPhone 16 series.
However, the iPhone 17 Pro isn’t without its design updates. Reports have suggested that the rear panel of the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will feature a “rectangular camera bump made of aluminum,” replacing the current 3D glass design. The lower half of the back is expected to remain glass to support wireless charging.
This mix of aluminum and glass could give the iPhone 17 Pro a fresh aesthetic while preserving its iconic camera arrangement. For now, the triangular layout stays, but with an updated backdrop that might set the tone for future iPhone designs.
