iPhone 17 Pro Could Stick To A Titanium Chassis

Contrary to recent rumors, next year’s iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are expected to stick with the titanium chassis introduced in the iPhone 15 Pro lineup.

This comes from a Weibo leaker “Instant Digital,” and challenges reports that Apple might shift to aluminum for its flagship models in 2025.

The speculation started when The Information’s Wayne Ma suggested that the iPhone 17 Pro models would mark Apple’s return to aluminum frames for high-end devices. This would be a notable shift, as Apple has emphasized premium materials like stainless steel and titanium for its Pro series in recent years. Ma also hinted that this change aligns with a larger redesign, including an aluminum upper back with a rectangular camera bump and a glass lower back for wireless charging.

However, Instant Digital doesn’t buy it. “Why would Apple switch to aluminum for its Pro models?” the leaker questioned, arguing that titanium has been a key marketing point for Apple’s premium devices and will remain a staple for the Pro lineup.

Apple has a track record of introducing bold features only to phase them out later. For example, 3D Touch debuted in the iPhone 6s but was quietly removed by the iPhone 11. Still, titanium seems to align with Apple’s strategy of emphasizing luxury materials.

Set to launch in fall 2025, the iPhone 17 series could feature new display sizes, ultra-thin designs, and ProMotion across the lineup. Whether it’s titanium or aluminum, we’ll have to wait.
