iPhone 17 Pro Could Sport 12GB RAM For Even Better AI Feature Support

While the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max have only been on sale for less than six months, all eyes are already on what comes next.

The expectation is that Apple will announce new iPhone 17 Pro models this coming September, and a new report claims that they will come with an AI-inspired RAM upgrade.

According to a research note by analyst Jeff Pu of GFHK Tech Research, seen by 9to5Mac, Apple will launch the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max with 12GB of RAM rather than the 8GB of RAM that is currently shipped in its iPhones. The analyst believes that the increase in RAM will be needed in order to allow for improved AI capabilities, the report notes.

“Meanwhile iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are expected to migrate to LPDDR5 12GB, this transition alone will contribute to a 3.5% YoY increase in smartphone DRAM content across an estimated 100 million new iPhone units,” the analyst reportedly said in his research note.

This backs up a previous claim by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who had already suggested that a RAM increase was in the cards for the new iPhones. The analyst claimed as much last year after it became clear that Apple Intelligence would likely drive Apple’s hardware and specification plans moving forward.

If all of the rumors are true it suggests that Apple has plans for Apple Intelligence that will push devices harder than ever before. It also suggests that some future Apple Intelligence features may be limited to the new iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models, too.
