iPhone 16 Pro Max Camera Upgrades: A Closer Look At The New Features

Here’s a closer look at iPhone 16 Pro Max camera upgrades and all the new features that come as part of the new system.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max is the new model that everyone wants and it sits at the very top of Apple’s new iPhone lineup. As ever, photography is likely to be one of the big reasons that people buy this model, so what does it have to offer?

Apple’s biggest and most expensive iPhone regularly relies on its photography and videography prowess when setting itself out above the competition, and this year is no exception.

Apple’s September 9 unveiling event saw the company take the wraps off new features in both hardware and software, and there’s a lot to like.

Perhaps the most obvious upgrade here is the addition of the new Camera Control button, a feature that allows users to more quickly and easily launch the camera app and interact with its features.

But the improvements go beyond that, with the new iPhone 16 Pro Max sporting a 48-megapixel ultra wide camera for the very first time. That’s joined by a 48-megapixel main fusion camera and a 12-megapixel telephoto option. Second-generation sensor-shift optical image stabilization is also offered, too.

All of this, coupled with the A18 Pro chip offered in the new high-end iPhones, means that 4K Dolby Vision video can be captured at 120fps for the first time while ProRes video can also be captured at the same frame rate and resolution when using an external storage device.

On the photography side, Apple says that the new model will feature the latest-generation Photographic styles, with next-generation portraits captured with Focus and Depth Control capabilities.

Additionally, 4 new mics mean video can be recorded with Spatial Audio. Audio Mixing is a new feature while allows “users to adjust their sound after capture to focus on the voice of the person on camera, make it sound like the video was recorded inside a professional studio, or position vocal tracks in the front and environmental noises in surround sound.” All of this thanks to machine learning algorithms.

All of this makes the iPhone 16 Pro Max the best iPhone for anyone looking at photography or videography.
