This move was rumored before the new iPhones were announced and is thought to have been made to allow the new models to support Apple Intelligence.
The 8GB figure matches that of the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, while the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus only had 6GB — explaining why those models will not support Apple Intelligence when the new features arrive with iOS 18.1 in October.
New 2024 iPhone RAM configurations:
- iPhone 16: 8GB
- iPhone 16 Plus: 8GB
- iPhone 16 Pro: 8GB
- iPhone 16 Pro Max: 8GB
2023 iPhone RAM configurations:
- iPhone 15: 6GB
- iPhone 15 Plus: 6GB

The news was confirmed by MacRumors after developers were able to uncover the information in the latest version of Xcode 16 which is now available for download by people who work on creating apps for iPhones, Macs, and iPads.
All of the new iPhones will be available for preorder on Friday, September 13 before they are made available for purchase officially on Friday, September 20. That’s when the phones will be available in the Apple Store while those who ordered online should start receiving their iPhones on that date, too.
