If you’ve picked up a new iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max, or intend to do so soon, you might notice that there’s a strange bug that appears to cause the camera to shake or vibrate when being used with some apps. So far, there doesn’t appear to be a fix, either.
According to a new report by MacRumors, multiple people across social media including Twitter, Reddit and the outlet’s own forums have pointed to problems relating to Snapchat, TikTok, and other apps with the camera output being particularly shaky during video recording.
The problem was also noted by YouTuber Luke Miani who said that while the problem wasn’t originally appearing on the official Camera app, it later did after using others.
YouTuber Luke Miani said he experienced the issue on one of the iPhone 14 Pro Max units that he was testing. Miani shared a video of the issue that shows the main lens on the device vibrating uncontrollably, and he said the incident resulted in the lens being unable to focus properly in subsequent usage, even in the Camera app.
In the end, Miani ended up getting the device replaced by Apple, although it isn’t clear whether that’s the only fix as of right now. It’s possible that this is a software issue given the iPhone 14 Pro’s new “Second generation” sensor-shift stabilization, but we’ll need to hear more from affected users and Apple to know for sure.
It isn’t unusual for Apple’s new iPhones to have issues at launch, and we can only hope that his is something that can be fixed with software updates rather than something that requires replacement hardware for all those affected.
