iPhone 12 Launch Delayed Till At Least Q4 2020 According To Major Apple Supplier

There have been rumors floating around for a while that claim Apple will be forced to delay the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro until at least October or somewhere even further into Q4 2020.

It’s thought that the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has caused enough problems with Apple’s plans and supply chain to warrant the delay and now one of its partners has said as much itself.

According to Bloomberg, Broadcom’s CEO has warned that there will be a “major” delay for a “large” phone launch. It’s assumed that this is the iPhone, normally likely to arrive in September.

Hock Tan, chief executive officer of Broadcom, discussed a “major product cycle delay” at a “large North American mobile phone” customer, during an earnings conference call with analysts on Thursday.

Tan often refers to Apple this way. This time, the executive said the delay will mean the bump in wireless revenue experienced by Broadcom will happen one quarter later than usual this year.

The move from September to October is a big deal for Apple and its partners, including Broadcom. It’s likely that would see Apple’s iPhones would miss the window to push its sales into the third quarter’s revenue for Apple’s partners. Tan mentioned that he doesn’t expect Broadcom’s Q3 revenue to see the uptick it normally would, presumably because Apple’s iPhone will be delayed.

While Apple tends to launch its iPhones in September, there is precedent for delays into October. Apple’s iPhone X and iPhone XR have already seen October launches and it looks increasingly likely at least one of the iPhone 12 lineup will follow suit.
