iPadOS 18 Jailbreak Has Been Achieved

Reportedly, iPadOS 18 jailbreak has been achieved on iPad. Here are the details on this development.

Apple announced the iPadOS 18 software update during the WWDC event on June 10 and it’s been available in developer beta ever since.

The third beta was released earlier this week, and while the final release isn’t expected until September, the software has reportedly already been jailbroken.

The update is set to be released in public beta within weeks but a new post by the @palera1n X account says that the iPadOS 18 software has been jailbroken on an iPad 7 “although there are still some issues.” The post doesn’t go into detail as to what those issues are or how impactful they might be, however.

The iPad 7 is of course jailbreakable because of a bootrom-level exploit that means Apple cannot explicitly block jailbreaking no matter what it does in terms of software fixes. However, the iPadOS 18 software update won’t be jailbreakable on newer iPads running newer chips regardless of this news, so don’t expect to jailbreak an M4 iPad Pro any time soon.

The benefits of jailbreaking iPads and iPhones these days are greatly reduced when compared to the heyday of jailbreak tools thanks in part to Apple’s own software updates. As Apple has added more features to the iPhone and iPad there have been fewer reasons to hack them.

Previously, support for things like multitasking was only available via jailbreaking but that hasn’t been the case for some time now.

Regardless, this is still sure to be good news for those who do continue to jailbreak and have a device that can be hacked.
