If you’re excited by what Apple has to offer with the upcoming iPadOS 18 software update, these are the iPads that you’ll need to own in order to install it. Using an older model? Now might be the time to consider upgrading.
Apple’s iPadOS 18 update is going to be the biggest refresh of the iPad’s software of the year and while it has been in a developer beta for a while now, final version is due to be out on September 16 which means the wait is almost over now.
The bad news though is that not all iPads will be capable of installing iPadOS 18 final version as Apple has now confirmed which iPads will work with iPadOS 18 and there are a couple of models that have been culled when we compare the list to those that could run iPadOS 17.
Most notably, devices powered by the A10X chip will not be supported including the first-generation 10.5-inch iPad Pro or indeed the second-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro. Both of those tablets were released in 2017.
That means that the list of supported devices includes:
- iPad Pro: 2018 and later
- iPad Air: 2019 and later
- iPad mini: 2019 and later
- iPad: 2020 and later
A10X devices will of course continue to work just fine with iPadOS 17 installed. Security updates will also continue to be released to ensure that they remain safe and secure, too.
