With the iPad 2 due to be announced any day now, speculation surrounding what screen will be used has increased with each passing day. Now 9to5Mac claim to have been supplied with what appears to be the screen from an iPad 2, direct from China. Could it really be?
Along with more photos than you cans shake a stick at, the post over at 9to5Mac points out that the new screen is around 1mm thinner than the one currently used in the iPad 1st-gen. Obviously that could lead to a more svelte case design, and lower weight for the 2nd generation tablet.
Further more, a commenter has checked the new part’s model number (LP097X02-SLN for those that way inclined) and has come up with some interesting conclusions.
I checked it:
(LP)097×02 SLN1= LG Phillips
LP(097)x02 SLN1= 9.7 inch display
LP097x(02) SLN1= used on displays with xga,sxga,wsxga
LP097x02 (SL)N1= H-IPS
LP097x02 SL (N1)= Not sureSo Lg Phillips 9.7in XGA 1024×768 H-IPS display
Thus far that conclusion is unconfirmed but if correct would indeed point to the iPad 2 sporting the same resolution as the current model, and at the same time killing rumors of a Retina Display once and for all.
