Apple has just stopped signing iOS 9.3.5, killing the last firmware version of iOS 9 in the process. The company has also stopped signing iOS 10.0.1 firmware, making downgrades to iOS 9.3.5 and iOS 10.0.1 impossible.
This development comes after Apple released iOS 10.0.3 earlier this week for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices, iOS 10.0.2 almost a month ago for all the other devices, and iOS 10.1 betas, which too, has been in beta for almost a month now.
With iOS 10.1 up to four betas now and almost ready for primetime, Apple killing the older iOS 9.3.5 and iOS 10.0.1 firmwares was inevitable.
So, what does this mean for jailbreakers? In short, nothing changes as there has been no public jailbreak available for any firmware past iOS 9.3.3. While some hackers have managed to jailbreak iOS 10.0.x versions, none of them have any plans to make them public as they want to keep the exploits alive for their private research purposes.
If you are still lucky enough to be on the jailbreak-friendly iOS 9.3.3 and can’t live without jailbreak and Cydia tweaks, you may want to stay there. As for those on iOS 9.3.5, it’s perhaps time to update to iOS 10 as the new update not only brings a lot of new features to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices, but it’s also likely to be supported by any jailbreak release that is made available to public in future.
