Apple is currently finding itself on an extremely fast-paced launch trajectory for its iOS mobile platform. The initial release of iOS 9.0 has already been followed up with relatively minor point releases in iOS 9.0.1 and 9.0.2, as well as a more major upgrade with the recent iOS 9.1. Additionally, the company has also starting seeded iOS 9.2 betas to developers and public testers since last week, and it has now been discovered that this latest iteration of the platform equips Apple’s digital assistant, Siri, with Arabic language support.
Apple has been laying the foundations for this level of support for the Arabic language for quite some time. The release of iOS 8 last year brought with it support for Arabic within the Keyboard Dictation and QuickType features. It doesn’t seem to be a coincidence that Apple has just opened its first two retail Apple Stores in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and now is busy implementing Arabic support for Siri in the soon-to-be released iOS 9.2. Not only does the UAE have two of the best Apple Retail outlets on the planet, but its populous can now also interact with Siri in its native tongue, as shown in the embedded video clip.
Considering iOS 9.2 is currently only in its second beta, it’s probably going to be at least another month or so before it gets to a stage where it could even be considered for a release to the general public. Still, it’ll be extremely reassuring for residents of Arabic speaking countries to know that they will finally be offered Siri support in their own language. That in itself is a great addition to the platform, but it’s not the only improvement that Apple is making, which is great news for those not located in an Arabic speaking country.
iOS 9.2 has also been shown to bring with it an improvement to how Safari is utilized in App Store apps, as well as offering AT&T customers the ability to make WiFi calls from a Mac through the network’s NumberSync technology. Of course, there’s also some iOS 9.2 Apple Pay related news that will likely see Apple’s new financial partnership with American Express come to fruition for those located in Australia and Canada. Overall, it looks as though iOS 9.2 should be a solid and worthwhile update when it finally lands on our devices.
