Although one probably wouldn’t go as far as to suggest that Apple’s new iOS 8 software is strewn with bugs, it’s certainly had its customary dose of teething issues, with a number of devices and apps affected by those early imperfections. Still, Apple has apparently been hard at work on iOS 8.0.1, and while a minor, bug-fixing update was always likely to follow the end user roll-out of iOS 8, we now have a few details on what exactly said update may contain. So if your iOS 8 experience has been a bit of a rocky ride thus far, there’s a good chance that the antidote is on the way, and below, we’ve the full round-up.
As per a report over at MacRumors, who have been in touch with “a source” apparently familiar with such matters, iOS 8.0.1 includes a multitude of fixes relating to a variety of apps.
The Phone app, for example, should no longer encounter freezing issues when trying to access the visual voicemail feature, and any glitches pertaining to call forwarding will also be no longer.
The keyboard, which has been treated to a major overhaul thanks to the stock revamp and third-party support with iOS 8, has also been far from perfect, and according to the MacRumors coverage, a problem relating to the keypad playing up and not entering iCloud Keychain verification codes on cue will soon be fixed through iOS 8.0.1.
Further amendments to video playback in Mobile Safari, and bugs with AirDrop Sharing and VPN will also be included, but given that Apple was already said to be testing iOS 8.0.1 internally prior to the public launch of iOS 8.0, it’s likely that a number of the newer problems will also be addressed in the next update.
HealthKit, for example, was hit by a major bug right before launch, and despite having been talked up incessantly prior to and after its WWDC showcasing, we’re still yet to properly see what this new, integrated suite has to offer.
We also wish Apple also fixes the dreaded Wi-Fi issues with the release of iOS 8, which has plagued countless users around the globe.
The full changelog is as follows:
– Phone: Addresses bugs with call forwarding and freezing when accessing visual voicemail
– Keyboard: Fixes an issue with keypad not appearing to enter iCloud Keychain verification codes
– Safari: Fixes a problem with videos occasionally not playing
– Sharing: Fixes AirDrop support for Passbook passes
– VPN: Addresses an issue with installing VPN profiles
So, insiders may have divulged some of the details on iOS 8.0.1, but given that the described fixes relate to bugs Apple knew of prior to iOS 8’s release, the full story has yet to be told.
When iOS 8.0.1 does finally manifest itself, though, we’ll have all of the details right here, so stay tuned.
