iOS 7 Tweak Lets You Lock / Unlock Apps On iPhone Using Touch ID [VIDEO]

Touch ID iPhone 5s

What we want to be able to do is tell iOS to only allow access to certain apps, be that FaceTime, the Settings app or perhaps Mail, if the user's fingerprint matches that on Touch ID's chip. If it doesn't, the app doesn't launch. The idea would be a real boon for those of us who have kids that like to send messages when playing with iPhones, and a new YouTube video has been released that teases such a jailbreak tweak. Rejoice!

The video, by Elias Limneos, might not be the most highly polished we've ever had the pleasure of watching, but it does just what it needs to do. In the video we see apps refusing to launch initially, but when the right finger is placed on the iPhone's home screen, the device authenticates and the app launches. It's exactly what we've been waiting for, and it seems to work at least well enough to make its way to video.

Unfortunately, there is no mention in the video's description as to when it will be made available, or whether it will be offered for free or not. We're going to assume that it will be a paid-for tweak though, especially considering how popular it is likely to be.

We'll keep our ears to the ground for more information.

Now that Evad3rs has launched an iOS 7 jailbreak, we’re all sat impatiently waiting for what has to be the most obvious tweak that anyone could wish for on an iPhone 5s. In fact, it’s something that we’ve been asking Apple to add in subsequent releases of iOS 7, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to be forthcoming. At least, it’s not in iOS 7.1 as yet.

So, it’s left to the jailbreak community to do it, and we might not be waiting too long after all.

Still not worked out what we’re talking about? If you’ve ever looked at that fingerprint-sensing Home button on the iPhone 5s and thought that it would be great to be able to use Touch ID to protect individual apps, then you’re pretty much there.
