On iOS 7 Release Day, iOS 6.1.4 Jailbreak Gets A Video Demo

One of the great things about the annual iPhone hardware and software releases is that most of things usually take a back seat for a while. The jailbreak loving community are usually renowned for staying away from major iOS updates until one of the respected community members says it’s ok to install pending a new jailbreak release, but iOS 7 is such a vast change that it may prove difficult this time around. If jailbreaking is your thing then amid all of Apple’s iOS 7 madness today, there has also been an important update regarding the iOS 6.1.3 / 6.1.4 untethered jailbreak that we know has been worked on since weeks.

It’s no secret that we love the jailbreak community here at Redmond Pie. We actively bring you guys all of the latest and greatest tweak releases as well as keeping you on top of what’s going on in the scene. The levels of innovation and determination that these researchers have is truly inspiring. It was great news to let everyone know that a preliminary untethered jailbreak for iOS 6.1.3 / 6.1.4 was being worked on by Winocm, but it’s even better news to be able to let you know that there has been some notable progress made on the project today.

Cydia on iOS 6.1.4 (iPhone 5)

Winocm has been regularly tweeting about his work on producing a jailbreak for quite some time. What seemed to start out as a personal project has grown into a great deal more with his latest video uploaded to YouTube actually showing the 6.1.4 untether in action. The developer shows Cydia running on iPhone 5 while tethered before removing the attached Lightning cable, rebooting the device and re-accessing Cydia to show that everything is working untethered as it should be.

He also goes as far as to launch a number of native Apple apps such as Safari and Maps to show that the required sandbox patches have been applied and are functioning as expected. The verbose nature of the boot and a number of other niggling issues prove that this current build of his jailbreak is still very buggy and not ready for a release.

While, there’s absolutely no ETA for any public release, another iOS hacker who goes by the name of iH8sn0w on Twitter has chimed in to confirm that there is a possibility of iOS 6.1.3 / 6.1.4 untethered jailbreak releasing in the next few weeks. In a post on his blog, he said:

If you are currently on iOS 7, I would recommend downgrading to 6.1.3/6.1.4 (via DFU).
Why? There is currently a possibility of a potential 6.1.3/6.1.4 untethered A5+ jailbreak being pushed in the upcoming days/weeks.

If you don’t care much about iOS 7 and want to jailbreak 6.1.4 or jailbreak 6.1.3 in the coming weeks, it is highly recommended you:

  1. Save SHSH blobs for your device running iOS 6.1.4 / 6.1.3 using TinyUmbrella or iFaith right now. Once iOS 7 is released, signing window for older firmwares will be closed, and you wont be able to save SHSH blobs.
  2. If you are on iOS 7, downgrade back to 6.1.4/6.1.3 right away. You can follow our guide on how to downgrade iOS 7 beta to iOS 6.1.3 / 6.1.4.

Update x1: Apple has released iOS 7. You can now download iOS 7 for iPhone 5, 4s, 4, iPad mini, iPad, iPod touch.
