With iOS 7 out now, attention has turned to when, and if, a iOS 7 jailbreak may be possible. Here, we’ll look at the possible leads we have so far, as well as running through the tail-end of the iOS 6.1.x jailbreak situation.
The first thing to note is that progress is, rather steadily, being made, but those hoping for a jailbreak soon are setting themselves up for a disappointment. These things often take a couple of months, and while we’d all love to see an untethered jailbreak within a few weeks of iOS 7’s release, the chances are at slim right now. If anything, we’re probably going to be waiting until iOS 7.1 or perhaps even further on, but the good news is that certain members of the jailbreak scene have found some exploits, so we’ll just have to wait and hope that they can be turned into a jailbreak.
Planetbeing, who happens to be a prominent member of Evad3rs, tweeted moments ago to confirm that the team is looking into iOS 7 GM. For those of you who don’t know, iOS 7 GM download was released by Apple to developers earlier today.
Meanwhile, iOS 6 has been rather busy post Evasi0n, the tool that jailbroke all devices on firmware up to and including iOS 6.1.2. Ironically enough, iOS 6.1.4 has recently being jailbroken by another dev who goes by the name of Winocm. This is something we really wouldn’t have called even a few months ago.
Jailbreak 6.1.4, running on iPhone 5 (iOS 6.1.4)
Needless to say, the work of the jailbreak scene is as strong as ever, despite iOS 7 bringing some intriguing new features, and while those looking for an iOS 7 jailbreak won’t get their wish initially, things could well change rather quickly for the flattened mobile software.
If you are running a jailbroken iOS device and wish to keep it intact, or if you are on 6.1.4 and in need of a jailbreak, do not upgrade to iOS 7. At least not until there is any further confirmation from either Evad3rs or Winocm. With such a significant aesthetic change, the temptation may be to leap on the bandwagon early, but in doing so — considering how difficult-to-impossible it is to find a downgrade these days — you’re kissing goodbye to any Cydia loving.
We like to keep abreast of the jailbreak scene goings-on here at Redmond Pie, and will duly update you as and when we learn more about iOS 7. In the meantime, enjoy your jailbroken iOS 6 devices and if you do upgrade to iOS 7, consider the functionality you’re foregoing in the process.

Update x1: Planetbeing has just provided another status update, this time stating that he and his team has achieved unsigned userland based code execution on iOS 7. They are going to start exploring the kernel next. While it is obviously very early to make anything out of this, it is still good to see the Evad3rs team actively working on jailbreaking iOS 7. As mentioned earlier, we’ll keep you all updated as soon as we hear more on it.
