If you are a registered developer on the official iOS development program, the time has come to head on over to the developer center and see exactly what Apple has in store for us, with iOS 6 GM for iPhone 4S, 4, 3GS, iPad 3, iPad 2, iPod touch and Apple TV just been seeded on the Dev Center.
iOS 6 is the first major release since iOS 5’s debut last fall. Introduced back in June at the Worldwide Developers Conference, there have been in total four betas to date with today’s milestone seed giving iOS 6 a Golden Master status.
Today’s GM seed is currently meant for registered developers of iOS Dev Center only. This is done mainly to ensure that it is of the highest quality when it eventually lands onto the devices of the millions of iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and Apple TV users around the world. It also ensures that developers, who are responsible for developing the next-generation of iOS apps, have access to all of the new features and enhancements that have been built into the latest creation, allowing them to not only test their existing apps for compatibility but also add new powerful features that make use of the new APIs.
Now unless a showstopper bug appears, today’s near-final GM seed is likely going to be the shipping version of iOS 6 come September 19th when all the newly announced devices are going to be shipped. It is also likely going to be the same build which the public will get on September 20th, the day when iOS 6 will be available to general consumers.
For those that already have a beta of the software installed on their device, it is not possible to get the update over-the-air (OTA). You will need to download the full IPSW file from the Apple’s developer portal and then restore to it via the latest version of iTunes.
