Much like the signal issues with the iPhone 4 release last June, the launch of Apple’s much-improved dual-core model has been dogged with problems – the battery being the main culprit this time around.
We’ve been assured by the fruit company that it is merely a software glitch, although the hasted release of iOS 5.0.1 – which promised to fix it – well, didn’t, and brought with it a couple of new issues, leaving iPhone 4S users bemused to say the least.
According to German blog Macerkopf (Mac Heads?), which focuses its attention – as you might expect – around the Cupertino company, a guy from the inside working in Apple’s iOS division has revealed to them that the battery issues have been completely resolved, allowing iPhone 4S users to enjoy the stated-in-manual 40 hours of standby and 10 hours’ usage.
The post also claims the update will be released no later than next week, so those of you experiencing rapid battery depletion, it seems you’ve only a few days to wait. After the last botched ‘fix’, I think we’ll wait for the release and end-user reaction before we declare it as ‘problem solved’, though.
On a brighter note, iOS 5.1 – which doesn’t yet have an ETA – does have some exciting rumored features – the main one being improvements to Siri. Allegedly, the voice-recognition software will be able to recognize quite a few more commands than the fairly broad catalogue it’s already capable of, such as taking pictures and video clips, and the ability to activate / deactivate Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
It’s important to remember that the claims are merely hear-say, thus once again, don’t go running for the champagne. Nonetheless, it paints an exciting picture for the iPhone 4S and iOS 5 integration, for if Apple plans to continue releasing updates for Siri every couple of months allowing it to do more, the feedback is likely to speed up progress.
As we’ve said, there’s unfortunately no indication as to when iOS 5.1 will be released, although it sure would make a nice gift for the holiday season, wouldn’t it?
For now, I guess, we should just be grateful that the battery is (presumably) fixed.
We’ll have the links up on Redmond Pie as soon as iOS 5.0.2 is released, so stay tuned!
