iOS 18.2 To Bring iOS 18.1 Apple Intelligence Delayed Features

As the title suggests, Apple will release iOS 18.2 later this year to bring some of iOS 18.1 Apple Intelligence features. Here are the details on this.

Well if you thought iOS 18.1 will bring all of Apple Intelligence goodness to your iPhone, you’ll be wrong as Mark Gurman writing for Bloomberg in his Power On newsletter confirms today that the Cupertino-based company is delaying some of Apple Intelligence features it previously promised to bring with iOS 18.1 release.

Apple made the decision to delay its new image-generation features to iOS 18.2 (rather than 18.1), which is scheduled for release in December. That includes the Image Playground app and the Genmoji capability, which uses AI to make emoji based on inputted text.

The two features which are affected by this delay are Image Playground and Genmoji, and Apple describes these two as follows:

Genmoji:

Make a brand-new Genmoji right in the keyboard to match any conversation. Provide a description to see a preview, and adjust your description until it’s perfect. You can even pick someone from your Photos library and create a Genmoji that looks like them.

Image Playground:

Produce fun, original images in seconds with the Image Playground experience right in your apps. Create an entirely new image based on a description, suggested concepts, and even a person from your Photos library. You can easily adjust the style and make changes to match a Messages thread, your Freeform board, or a slide in Keynote.

iOS 18.1 is currently in its beta development stage and it has some of Apple Intelligence features but the aforementioned two features aren’t part of it.

Apple is expected to announce its iPhone 16 lineup at its September 9 event where the company is also expected to seed RC version of iOS 18.0. The final version of iOS 18.0 is expected to be released on September 16th.

As for iOS 18.1, the final version of that is expected to release end of October, while iOS 18.2 with Genmoji and Image Playground features is now expected to be released by end of year in December.
