Apple will make the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro handsets available for preorder on September 13 before making them available for purchase in Apple Stores around the world on September 20. And those who get their hands on the new iPhones on launch day will find a new iOS 18.1 beta is ready and waiting for them.
Apple has today released iOS 18.1 beta 3 specifically with the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro handsets in mind.
The third iOS 18.1 beta has been around since late August but this version carries the 22B5034o build number and adds iPhone 16 support.
Only registered developers will be able to download the new iOS 18.1 software update in its beta form come September 20, but it’s expected to be released to the public in October. The update is a big one for Apple and iPhone users and will add support for Apple Intelligence.
The Apple Intelligence features are set to be a key driver behind iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro adoption, so it will be odd that the features won’t be available for another few weeks after those iPhones go on sale.
Alongside the new iPhones, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will also support Apple Intelligence, but owners of other models will need to pick up a new iPhone 16 device if they want to take Apple’s artificial intelligence features for a whirl.
