When Apple released the iOS 18.0.1 software update a week ago it was clear that it was all about offering new fixes rather than new features, and now we know what all of those fixes actually are.
According to Apple’s release notes, there are some bug fixes that relate specifically to the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models, while others fix issues that caused problems with the Messages app in relation to Apple Watch faces.
– Touch screen may be temporarily unresponsive in certain circumstances on iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models
– Camera may freeze when recording macro mode video on the Ultra Wide camera in 4K with HDR turned off on iPhone 16 Pro models
– Messages may unexpectedly quit when replying to a message with a shared Apple Watch face
– Performance may be impacted due to an issue with memory allocation on some iPhone models
All of those fixes are well worth installing iOS 18.0.1 for, and we would suggest that you do so as soon as possible — especially if you are suffering from one or more of the bugs mentioned.
Alongside the bug fixes Apple also confirmed that there are some security patches in this release, too. Those fixes relate to the way passwords work with the VoiceOver accessibility feature, while another fixes a security issue that could have seen audio messages in the Messages app capture audio before the microphone indicator was displayed.
The iOS 18.0.1 software update is available right now and everyone with a compatible iPhone should install it without delay.
