Apple has added numerous different Home Screen customization options to the iPhone in recent years, but it’s set to go a step further when it previews iOS 18 later this year.
That’s according to a new report that suggests that iOS 18 will be a watershed moment for iPhone customization fans.
According to a MacRumors report, Apple intends to give iPhone owners additional controls over those that are currently offered including the option to finally move icons around the Home Screen in such a way that they would be able to leave blank spaces. Currently, that isn’t an option.
While app icons will likely remain locked to an invisible grid system on the Home Screen, to ensure there is some uniformity, our sources say that users will be able to arrange icons more freely on iOS 18. For example, we expect that the update will introduce the ability to create blank spaces, rows, and columns between app icons.
This follows a similar report by Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, writing in the weekly Power On newsletter, which also suggested that new customization options are coming.
If Apple sticks to its usual pattern we can expect it to announce the iOS 18 software update during a June WWDC event before making the update available to developers in beta form. It’s then expected that the update will be released to the public in September alongside the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro devices.
