Apple is expected to announce the iOS 18 software update in June before making it available in September and it sounds increasingly likely that we can expect some big changes.
That’s according to a new report that suggests that the iOS 18 update will be a huge addition for iPhone owners.
Writing in the weekly Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, Mark Gurman says that he has been told “that the new operating system is seen within the company as one of the biggest iOS updates — if not the biggest — in the company’s history.”
Gurman also confirmed that he intends to share more details about what iOS 18 will have to offer later, but right now we know a couple of things that are all but confirmed for June’s iOS 18 update.
The first is RCS support, with Apple having already confirmed that the messaging standard will be added to the iPhone in 2024, and a big iOS 18 software update is likely to be the time to add it. RCS will allow rich messaging between iPhone and Android owners without having to use a third-party app for the first time.
We’re also expecting big AI updates with iOS 18 thanks to a winder focus on generative AI within Apple. It isn’t yet clear what this will look like, but we can likely look forward to new Siri capabilities and improvements.
