iOS 18 Siri Is Getting A Big Upgrade With Better Contextual Understanding

Apple is expected to announce iOS 18 at the WWDC event on June 10 and we’re learning more and more about what that update will bring to the masses.

Now, a new report hints that we should look forward to new Siri upgrades that will make the digital assistant more aware of context.

That context, AppleInsider reports, will include various things including people, businesses, events, and locations, and should allow Siri to offer more useful information and responses than ever before.

Siri is expected to receive significantly updated response generation capabilities, through a new smart response framework, as well as Apple’s on-device LLM. When generating replies and summaries, Siri will be able to take into account entities such as people and companies, calendar events, locations, dates, and much more.

Apple’s iOS 18 update is expected to feature some notable AI upgrades and Apple is thought to have struck a deal with OpenAI that will see the company’s ChatGPT technology used on iPhones. New AI-powered improvements are also expected to come to key Apple apps including Notes and Calculator.

If Apple sticks to its tried and tested release pattern we expect it to announce iOS 18 on June 10 before putting it through a months-long beta process that will culminate in its release to the public this fall, likely in mid-September. That will then coincide with the release of the new iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro, too.
