iOS 18 Or iOS 17 – Should You Upgrade?

iOS 18 or iOS 17? Should you upgrade your iPhone or iPad to latest software version to come out of Apple?

Apple recently released the iOS 18 software update alongside iOS 17.7, a release made available for people who wanted to get the latest security updates without updating to the latest software. But which should you update to if you’re keen to make sure you’re getting the very best performance?

That’s something that the iAppleBytes YouTube channel set out to figure out when putting both updates through their paces.

The tests were run on an iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12, and iPhone 13. The tests were both run side-by-side, but it’s worth noting that they were not conducted on an iPhone 14 or iPhone 15-series device so those with the latest models might need to look elsewhere to get the answers they need.

As expected, Apple released iOS 18 and 17.7 this Monday (September 16, 2024). It has been a while since I’ve been conducting these speed tests, primarily because I haven’t been able to observe significant differences from point release to point release or from beta to beta. However, whenever a new major release is out, I believe it’s essential to perform a test. So, I’ve done it.

We won’t ruin the video for you and instead we suggest checking it out for yourself via the embedded video right here.

But what we will say is that anyone who has been holding off installing iOS 18 because they worried it would devastate their iPhone’s performance can probably update without too many concerns.
