Apple announced the iOS 18 software update earlier this month and it is expected to ship later this year.
Part of the update is improvements to Notes that will allow for inline math and conversion calculations, but we now know that the same capabilities are also coming to other apps via the iPhone’s keyboard.
The first iOS 18 developer beta is now in the hands of early testers and one developer has posted to the X social network to confirm that the iOS 18 keyboard has a new trick.
Typing a calculation into any text field will see the keyboard produce the answer as an option via the suggestion bar. Tapping the answer will then enter it into the text field as you might expect.
9to5Mac notes that users can also then choose to “show your work” and enter the equation and the answer into the text field, too. “The feature works with basic math, conversions for things like currencies and temperatures, and more,” the report notes.
Currently in developer beta, iOS 18 is also expected to be released in public beta next month. A months-long beta program is then expected to continue before iOS 18 is released to the public in or around the middle of September. That release will also likely come just before Apple releases the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro to the world.
