iOS 18 Camera Can Finally Record Video While Playing Music, Podcasts, More

Ever since the iPhone was able to record video using the Camera app, there has been one issue for people who listen to audio while they do it.

The iPhone has always paused the audio that’s playing, whether that’s music, a podcast, or anything else, whenever the video recording feature of the Camera app was used. But with the launch of iOS 18, that’s all going to change.

Apple hasn’t made a big deal about the change but it’s one that a few people have noticed, including during our testing of the feature while on a recent vacation. It’s a big change that will be popular among people who like to capture videos while listening to content.

The change applies to all iPhones whether or not they are connected to AirPods or other earbuds at the time and appears to have been made with little fanfare.

This is a change that should arguably have been made years ago and it never really made sense why the iPhone muted audio when capturing videos in the first place.

The iOS 18 update is currently available to both developer and public beta testers but isn’t expected to be released to the public until this September, likely alongside the release of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro handsets.
