Apple is strongly expected to share details about the upcoming iOS 18 iPhone software update next month and big AI improvements are expected to be the order of the day.
Now, a new report adds some details to what we can expect those new AI features to be.
Writing in the weekly Power On newsletter Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said that we should expect new AI upgrades to include the ability to have the iPhone automatically summarize notifications while also offering something similar for news articles. The upgrade will also see the iPhone better able to add new items to the calendar, too.
That includes services like auto-summarizing notifications from your iPhone, giving a quick synopsis of news articles and transcribing voice memos, as well as improving existing features that auto-populate your calendar and suggest apps. There will also be some enhancements to photos in the form of AI-based editing, but none of those features will impress people who have used AI in Adobe Inc.’s apps for the last several months.
However, anyone hoping for something akin to the ChatGPT-4 update that was shown off by OpenAI recently will be left disappointed.
Chatbot features are not expected to be part of the iOS 18 announcement with Apple’s executive team reportedly very much aware that the company is behind the times.
Apple has previously been reportedly in talks with OpenAI about using its chatbot technology to give Siri a much-needed boost.
