Apple’s Messages app is probably one of the most used among iPhone and iPad users, but it hasn’t change a whole lot in recent years. That could soon change, according to a new report.
That report comes via Twitter leaker Majin Bu who tweeted to say that they had heard that “Apple is working on a new version of iMessage [that’s] completely renewed.”
The tweet went on to say that users should look forward to new “chat rooms, video clips, and new chat features in AR.” It’s thought that the updated Messages will arrive next year, alongside Apple’s rumored mixed reality headset.
That headset is likely to arrive in or around the first quarter of 2023, with an expected asking price of around $2,000. If this leak is correct, we’ll see an all-new Messages app built specifically with its use in mind.
For those who don’t use the headset, users will also benefit from things like those new chat rooms, although it isn’t immediately clear what they will entail.
With Apple set to announce iOS 17 in June — assuming WWDC follows its usual timeframe — we still have around nine months left to wait to find out. We can expect to learn more about both the headset and what iOS 17 will have to offer over the coming weeks and months, however.
