If you’re wondering why iOS 17 is not available for download on iPhone X and below devices, here’s the reason for it.
Apple has now released iOS 17 to the public after months of beta testing. But you might not be able to download it, and here’s why.
Apple’s iOS 17 update was announced during the WWDC 2023 event on June 5 and it’s been in the hands of developers, and then public beta testers, ever since.
They’ve been putting it through its paces and Apple has polished it to make sure it’s ready for prime time. However, those who have an iPhone X or another A10 device like the iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus are in for a disappointing time — because iOS 17 won’t work on those devices.
That’s because Apple has not added iPhone X, iPhone 8, or iPhone 8 Plus support to iOS 17 which means that owners of those handsets will need to consider upgrading if they want to install iOS 17 or later software.
Apple says that the iPhone XR or later will work just fine, while the 2nd-generation iPhone SE is also good to go. But anyone with older devices is unfortunately out of luck. Apple hasn’t said why that is, but those A10 devices are now getting a little long in the tooth and it’s likely that some iOS 17 features simply wouldn’t work to a good standard on those older models.
The new iOS 17 update will of course come preinstalled on the new iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
