iOS 17 Can Help If You Forget Your New Passcode

If you’ve ever changed your iPhone’s passcode but then forgotten what you changed it to, iOS 17 is the update for you.

According to a new report, Apple’s iPhone software update will give people who forget their passcode a way to get back into their iPhone — so long as they forget it within 72 hours of changing it.

MacRumors reports that anyone who enters a correct passcode can tap a new “Forgot Passcode?” option at the bottom of the screen.

Here, a “Try Passcode Reset” option can be used to allow people to enter the previous passcode before creating a new one.

On top of that, Apple appears to have added an option to expire the previous passcode when needed, preventing this 72-hour window from being used at all. That could come in handy if your previous passcode has been

This is of course a big new addition for iOS 17 but users will have to wait a few months before they can take advantage of it. The iOS 17 update isn’t going to be ready for the public until in or around September, with months of betas still to be released before then.

That September release window is also when we expect Apple to announce the iPhone 15 lineup as well as refreshed Apple Watches. It isn’t yet clear whether the Apple Watch Ultra will be updated or if the wearable is on something other than an annual refresh cycle.
