Apple’s latest iOS 16.2 beta includes support for disabling both the wallpaper and notifications from the Always On Display on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max devices.
With previous versions of iOS 16, anyone with Apple’s two high-end iPhones could enable and disable the Always On Display as they wished, but the wallpaper and notifications would appear whether they wanted them to or not.
With iOS 16.2 beta 3, that’s changed — and there are two new toggles.
Hidden in the Settings app new toggles for Wallpaper and Notifications can be found in an Always On Display submenu. With both disabled, the Always On Display only shows the time and any Lock Screen widgets that the user has enabled.
The change means that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Always On Display now more closely resembles that of Android phones, while making the device less distracting when placed on a table or desk. It could also improve battery life as well, but we’ll need more people to test the feature for longer before we can be sure.
The Always-On Display is limited to only the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, with the flagship phones having gone on sale in September. The iOS 16.2 update is expected to be made available in the middle of December based on a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
