Looking for iOS 16 download on iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus? Here’s what you need to know.
Apple’s big iOS 16 update is now available and you can download it for your compatible iPhone might now. But that’s the rub — the iOS 16 update might not be available for your iPhone, meaning it might be time to upgrade.
The new update is compatible with all modern iPhones going all the way back to the 2017 iPhone X and iPhone 8, but anything older than that is not compatible.
That means that people carrying an iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s, or iPhone 6s Plus — all devices that some people continue to use to this day — are out of luck. If that’s you, perhaps this is a sign that you could consider upgrading to something a little newer.
With Apple continuing to support iPhone X and iPhone 8, it’s clear that you might not need to jump all the way to a new iPhone 14 to get in on the iOS 16 fun, but beware. Apple could drop support for those iPhones soon enough, so anyone considering buying a used iPhone should move a little further down the lineup to ensure iOS compatibility for years to come.
The iOS 16 update is a big one with a number of much-requested additions.
This year, Apple allows people to edit and unsend iMessages for the first time, while the iPhone’s Lock Screen can now be customized in ways that were never before possible — including the addition of widgets for the first time. Those with compatible iPhones should definitely download the update and take it for a spin ASAP.
