iOS 16 duplicate photos detection makes deleting of copies easier than ever. Here’s what you need to know about this.
Apple’s iOS 16 update was announced as part of the WWDC22 event’s opening keynote back in June and while the company showed off a ton of new features, today is the company will release the said firmware for public consumption.
One of the new features is a change that will make it easier than ever to delete duplicate photos and videos in the Photos app.
With iOS 16 installed people will notice a new Duplicates album that will play host to all of the images that iOS thinks are duplicates. It’ll use Duplicate Detection and machine learning to try and decide which images are alike, with initial testing showing that it works fairly well.
Once a duplicate has been found, Photos will give you the chance to “merge” them, which will effectively delete one of the duplicates.
Apple announced iOS 16 alongside iPadOS 16, macOS Ventura, watchOS 9, and tvOS 16 and while iOS 16, watchOS 9 and tvOS 16 are set for release today, iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura won’t be available to public in final form until sometime next month in October.
