Whenever a new version of iOS is released there’s one place to go to find out whether the changes made any difference to battery life. YouTube channel iAppleBytes has made a habit of running Geekbench’s battery benchmark before updating to a new release, and then again afterwards. This time we have iOS 13.1.3 vs iOS 13.1.2.
By using older devices as well as an iPhone XR, iAppleBytes is able to test how iOS updates impact both ageing and newer devices in one video. And the results can often make for some interesting viewing.
Geekbench 4 is a test that is designed to run down a phone’s battery without having to manually interact with it.
Geekbench 4 battery scores measure the battery life of a device when running processor-intensive applications. It provides a consistent workload to the device, and generates a Geekbench score by evaluating the amount of work that it is able to do while the battery is discharging and the amount of time it takes for the battery to discharge.
So how did things pan out when iOS 13.1.3 and iOS 13.1.2 were put through their paces? Interestingly, some of the iPhones tested managed to return the exact same results with both versions of iOS installed. Others did see changes from one to the other, but they were so small they aren’t worth considering.
Be sure to check the full video to get the actual numbers if you want to compare with your own device. But the upshot of all this is simple – don’t expect battery gains from iOS 13.1.3. Or losses, for that matter.
